October Family Activities

At Star Montessori, we like to embrace all seasons into our curriculum. With seasons changing and October right around the corner we are definitely going to embrace the spirit of fall and hope you can too at home. Fall is one of my favorite seasons and it is so important for kids to understand all the great changes and opportunities each season has to offer.

Fall brings a change in the weather, a change in colors around us, and we can’t forget Halloween right around the corner. Check out some awesome ways to have fun with the kids after school and on weekends.

Get Halloween Ready

Aside from the fear of kids going on a sugar high, there is so much fun to be had around Halloween. Start with picking our your families costumes, some may go all out and clean out the costume stores, others may get more crafty with DIY costumes. Personally I like a mix of both to keep things exciting and cost effective. Check out these super cute DIY costume ideas for your kids here.

Once you have costumes decided, maybe you want to decorate the house a little. This is a great opportunity for keeping kids busy with crafts. Think garbage bag ghosts, pumpkin carving, and spooky music dance parties. No matter how they turn out, it will be a chance for you to enjoy time with your kids!

If you choose to stay in for a weekend, there are tons of great kid’s movies out around Halloween. Grab some popcorn and cozy up! My personal favorite has to be Halloweentown J.

Fall Festivals

Fall means apples: apple farms, apple picking, apple cider, apple donuts. Go crazy for the weekend at your nearest apple farm.

Check out the Fall Festival and Pumpkin Patch at Dewberry Farm. They have over 8 acres of corn mazes to explore, lots of pumpkins to pick, and even have a railroad for kids to ride!

Campfire Night

What better way to spend a Friday night then by a fire. Use this time for your kids to let their inner story tellers out – have everyone tell a spooky story. S’mores are optional but highly recommended.

Explore Outside

With the weather finally not so hot, take the time to take a hike or bike ride. Play with sidewalk chalk or just bring board games outside in the backyard. It’ll keep the mess and the fun outside.

Fall Foods

If you like to play around in the kitchen, bring in some new recipes with fall flavor. Think apple pies, pumpkin flavored .. everything, caramel corn treats, and hearty squash soups.

There are endless opportunities for your family to enjoy this fall, keep us updated with what fun fall activities you are up to! Star wishes you a spooktacular Halloween season!
