Hurricane Harvey Impact

As we slowly get back to normal life, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on the happenings of Hurricane Harvey. Hurricane Harvey was a major hurricane making landfall in the greater Houston area. It was noted to be the wettest tropical cyclone on record in the U.S.

As a result, hundreds and thousands of homes were affected, displacing over 30,000 people. This is the worst disaster in Texas history, and the expected recovery is to take many years.

We are fortunate to not have any destruction to our building and are happy to continue serving the community and caring for your children. We are sad to see many of our parents lose their homes and jobs due to the effects of flooding.

Alongside the destruction to homes, there are about 230,000 students who are still unable to go back to school due to delays by Harvey. It is no surprise that with students being away from the classroom so long, it will impact their educational development. Once children are back to school, schools will have to work harder to regain a sense of normalcy. Schools will be playing catch-up or abandon certain material to make sure kids are on track for the following year.

Here at Star Montessori, we are working to keep things back to normal for our teachers, parents, and most importantly our children. We are welcoming our after-school children for full-time care for parents who still need to get to work. Many of our families have been displaced, we pray for a quick recovery and to see those families back at Star again
